CALANGUTE: Following complaints of fences on Aguada plateau blocking traditional approach routes in the area used by fishermen to get to sea, North Goa planning and development authority (NGPDA) recently demolished an illegally erected fence at the plateau and an illegal concrete water storage tank used for construction purposes.
NGPDA chairman and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said locals had complained to NGPDA about fences blocking fishermen’s path from the plateau to sea-level, after which a notice had been issued notice to the property owner to be present for inspection on Wednesday.
“Since the owner failed to turn up and it was an illegal structure, NGPDA took suo motu action and removed the fencing. This is a no-development, eco-sensitive zone with rich flora and fauna where nothing can be built,” Lobo said.
