2 get 5-yr jail for abetment to suicide

SUNDERNAGAR: A local court yesterday sentenced Savita Devi, a resident of Dhaneshwari, and her paramour Ramkrisan, a resident of Dhanotu, to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) in an abetment to suicide case.

Sundernagar, September 18

A local court yesterday sentenced Savita Devi, a resident of Dhaneshwari, and her paramour Ramkrisan, a resident of Dhanotu, to five-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) in an abetment to suicide case.

A fine of Rs 10,000 each was also imposed on the two. In case the fine is not paid, they will have to undergo one-year imprisonment.

The brother of the deceased had filed a complaint at the Sundernagar police station on October 26, 2009, that his brother Gagnesh had been missing since October 21. He had caught the convicts red-handed in a hotel room. His body was recovered from the BBMB Reservoir. Following which, a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the duo. Some objectionable pictures and a CD were also recovered.

The prosecution examined 22 witnesses to prove its case. The court ruled that Gagnesh committed suicide on account of the illicit relationship between the convicts. — OC
