Paintings of buildings from the past

Paintings of buildings from the past
Damodaran Mooderiyil’s painting exhibition titled Inspirations held at the Durbar Hall Art Gallery was predominantly based on architecture, reminiscent of our tradition and culture.
The reason behind taking traditional architecture as the area of focus, he says is nostalgia. “It triggers nostalgia in us when we look at the changing times through the imagery of buildings.
The city life we are leading today and how people have adapted to newer designs in buildings are some of my inspirations.”
Damodaran says among the paintings he has exhibited the one depicting dome-shaped, mosque like buildings painted in strokes of grey is his favourite. You take a closer look and you will see that its 3D effect will almost make you fall in love with the work. He says, “Initially I worked on the theme using water colour and later switched to acrylic.”
Damodaran, who has been painting for a long time now, had also showcased works featuring folk forms of Kerala and vivid images of nature. He adds, “When I witness the bounty of nature I always try to capture those scenes. The happiness that you get when you paint them is completely other-wordly.”
About 28 acrylic and eight water colour paintings were on display. Art enthusiast Hima Vinod comments, “It is an eye-opener in terms of cities, buildings and nature. For me, they are a reminder of the rich past and nostalgic memories.”
