Gujarat Ayurved University bags 'A' from NAAC

RAJKOT: Jamnagar-based Gujarat Ayuved University (GAU) has been accredited with 'A' grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore.
GAU officials said that NAAC in its meeting of the Executive Committee held on September 15 has awarded 'A' Grade to the university which will remain valid for next five years.
NAAC evaluates the universities of India on seven parameters like curricular aspects, teaching, learning and evaluation, research and extension and infrastructure facilities among other criteria.
A peer team of eight experts from NAAC under the chairmanship of professor Chandrasekhar Shetty, former vice-chancellor of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, had visited GAU between July 11 and July 13 this year.
"Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, has secured first place among all state and private universities of the state and first-of-its-kind ayurved university, government-aided mono faculty health science universities of the country," said a GAU official.
"Now, the university has obtained place among the top 30 NAAC accredited universities of the country. This is a matter of pride for the university and all efforts will be made to maintain this status and achieve higher grade," said Vaidhya Sanjay Oza, vice chancellor of Gujarat Ayurved University.
According to GAU officials, NAAC inspection is mandatory for all universities under the purview of University Grants Commission (UGC). But for Gujarat Ayurved University, an affiliated University of the Health department of Gujarat, NAAC is not mandatory.
"But still we proactively opted for such quality audit that shows that the university is keen to improve its quality parameters. The university has also initiated steps for accreditation of its laboratories and hospitals," said Dr Ajaysinh Jadeja, deputy registrar and coordinator of internal quality assurance cell at GAU, Jamnagar.
