AGRA: The city of the Taj will be soon become a major power hub of Uttar Pradesh. Construction of a 765 kilovolt (KV) substation in Mawai village of Fatehabad block has been completed. The final line testing work is taking place and is likely to be completed within the next two days. The substation will ensure sufficient electricity supply to several districts within the western grid.

According to Dakshinaanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd (DVVNL) officials, chief minister Akhilesh Yadav may inaugurate the substation on October 6. Another 765 KV substation built by Powergrid Corporation of India will start operating by the end of this year.
Talking to TOI, Ashok Saxena, chief engineer of DVVNL said, "The substation has been fully developed. Transmission line testing works are taking place. Villages over which the high tension line passes have been informed about the flow of electricity, in order to avoid any accident. System testing will take place on Wednesday and the substation will start operating in October."
The 130-km long transmission line connects the substation at Mawai with the power plant at Lalitpur. It passes through a large number of villages in Jhansi, Jalaun, Auriya, Etawah and Agra. According to DVVNL officials, several power centres with lower capacities will be connected to the Mawai substation once it becomes operational. The two substations will together enhance Agra's position in the state's power supply map. "Agra will thus become the only district in the entire state to have two 765 KV substations. The Powergrid Corporation substation is also ready and will be operational by November. The plan is to connect both substations as well. Other 765 KV substations are also proposed to be developed at Noida, Mainpuri and Hapur," said a senior official of the UP Power Transmission Corporation Ltd.
