Noida: A man who stole his friend’s Merceds Benz car in Sector 46 was arrested on Saturday. The accused Vivek Maheshwari (35) fled with the SUV on September 6. Police had launched a hunt and arrested him from Hajipur underpass on Saturday.
The complainant Avinash Sharma is a businessman based in Agra. Vivek is also a native of Agra but settled in Noida a few years ago.
Police said both the victim and the accused were friends.
Police said Maheshwari deals in the sale and purchase of used vehicles in Sector 63. Two years ago he had helped Sharma buy a used Mercedes Benz.
B R Zaidi, SHO of Sector 39 police station, said that on September 6, Sharma came to Noida for work. “He stayed at Maheshwari’s house at night. However, when he woke up in the morning he saw that his car was missing. When he went to look for Maheshwari, he too was missing,” he said. Sharma tried to contact Maheshwari but his phone was switched off following which he registered a complaint with Sector 39 police station.
Meanwhile, Maheshwari fled to Gurgaon and then Jalandhar and travelled for around 10 days. He was arrested on Saturday while returning to Noida.
Zaidi said Maheshwari was planning to sell the car to unsuspecting buyers.
