SHIKARPUR: A police constable who got injured in a suicide-attempt at Abu Talib Imambargah in Khanpur tehsil succumbed to his injuries at Agha Khan Hospital in Karachi on Friday. Mohammad Rafique Qureshi, aged 40, received fatal injuries when two suicide bombers tried to enter the “Abu Talib” Imambargah in Khanpur teshil of Shikarpur district on the first day of the Eidul Azha during prayers. He stopped them and during the resistance one suicide bomber blew himself up, making three police constables seriously injured. They were shifted to Agha Khan Hospital Karachi for treatment on the behest of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah. After four days, Rafique succumbed to his injuries. He got his appointment in 1993 and was the resident of Khanpur. He survived one son and a wife. The funeral prayer of the martyred police constable was offered at Khanpur Town. Besides, two other police constables, Sher Muhammad Sanjrani and Nazar Muhammad Malik, are said to be in critical condition. Meanwhile, an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) of Shikarpur handed over the alleged terrorist identified as Uman Ali, aged 18, son of Akhtar Ali, resident of Sawat, KPK, to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on 30-day remand for further investigation. However, a Shia leader from Shikarpur Sikandar Ali Dal told Daily Times that they have decided to launch a long march after 10th Muharram towards Karachi because they are being victimized for many years. He expressed reservations about the security during Muharram, and alleged that Shikarpur police is not able to protect them, therefore, the federal government should deploy Rangers as well as Army in Shikarpur district to maintain law and order situation during Muharram. On the other hand, talking to the Daily Times, Athar Channa, PSO, SSP, Shikarpur said that the case of Khanpur incident has been shifted to CTD, Karachi, while they would help the CTD in this regard.
