Rajdhani death: Blanks in report raise questions

Rajdhani death: Blanks in report raise questions
KOLKATA: Allegations by family members of Roshan Kumar Singh, the 17-year-old who died after reportedly falling off the Sealdah Rajdhani Express at Etawah last Tuesday , grew stronger and louder on Saturday after it was found that a number of crucial information were missing in the initial Uttar Pradesh GRP report.
The report does not mention the place of the death, or the name of the person who first saw Roshan dead or even the place of the accident.
Even the date marked on the top of the document is August 9, 2016 (Roshan left for Delhi on September 12).
Also, the victim's name had been wrongly entered, and cor rected later. The address mentioned is false and the mandatory official seal is missing.
Talking to Roshan's family members, police have learnt that the South City accountancy (honours) student, who scored 91% in the HS, had not informed his parents about his Delhi trip with Hope Kolkata Foundation members till the last day.
"My son had earlier visited Delhi and Puri to attend similar conferences. In both cases, I was called to the Tollygunge police station, where the NGO conducts tuition classes, and my consent was taken. But this time, they merely asked my son to get my consent. He told me on Monday morning that he was leaving for Delhi. That was it. I never saw him alive again," Roshan's mother Daymanti Singh told TOI.
She, along with Roshan's father Subhodh Singh and elder brother Manish Kumar Singh, stuck to her allegation that the boy's death was either a murder or a result of negligence on part of NGO co-ordinators Swapan Nanda and
Naznin Khatoon.
"Even when they brought him back, they first took the body to the NGO office. They did not bother to answer why the post-mortem was carried out without the presence or consent of his family members. Those NGO people made his father sign on blank papers," said neighbour Kalyan Das.
The NGO maintained it was an accident witnessed by several passengers and staff on Tuesday morning. "He was warned twice by railway staffers to not lean out of the door. He did not listen," said NGO director Geeta Venkadakrishnan.
"Both co-ordinators are still traumatized. We will meet the parents after they and our coordinators recover from their initial shock," she added.
After initial reluctance, local police agreed to lodge a case after interference from lawyer Kakali Ghosh. DC (south) Murlidhar Sharma said they will contact the UP GRP to get the details. Police will soon take statements of Madhu Kumari, Roshan's teammate.
