Giri Utsav concludes

September 18, 2016 12:00 am | Updated November 01, 2016 07:17 pm IST - UTNOOR (ADILABAD DISTRICT):

The two-day tribal cultural fest, Giri Utsav 2016, which concluded at here on Saturday will be remembered by the poor aboriginal tribes in the district for a long time to come. The visiting tribes would go back with fond memories of the event , especially by the two Adivasi couples who ended up marrying for real at the festival.

While all the nine tribes which participated in the event showcased important stages in their lives like births, marriages and death, a Gond and a Koya couple really tied the knot. The best part was that they observed all their traditions and rites associated with marriage, which they may not have had an opportunity to follow if they got married in their village.

The Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Utnoor, led by Project Officer R.V. Karnan, had facilitated tribal people from all corners of the district assemble at the venue, the Kumram Bheem complex.

The festival concluded in an emotional valedictory which was attended by Collector M. Jagan Mohan, MLAs, A. Rekha Naik and Koneru Konappa among others.

The ITDA Project Officer thanked everybody for making the event a success.
