Nagpur: Two murders at different places in the city on Saturday kept the cops on toes. A history-sheeter’s murder at the busy Trimurti Nagar Square in broad daylight also raised question on the city police’s control over law and order situation. In the last 10 days, there have been now four murders, firing incidents, couple of assault on cops and other crimes.
In the first incident, Rohit Hatiband (23), a former murder accused of several other offences against him in the past, was stabbed to death at Trimurti Nagar Square.
Rana Pratap Nagar police later arrested Vikram Kunjam and Harshal Nikhar, who are carpenters. One of their accomplices, Vinod Masram, is still at large. Masram is a former rape accused.
Senior PI Shivaji Gaikwad of Rana Pratap Nagar police station said that Nikhar and Kunjam worked under Masram. The trio are learnt to have killed Hatiband over a dispute on a mobile phone which was in the possession of the victim. Nikhar had been requesting Hatiband to return the handset but Hatiband was reluctant. Kunjam and Masram decided to teach Hatiband a lesson for harassing Nikhar. Shortly before the murder, the trio lured Hatiband with an invitation to consume liquor and later stabbed him to death.
In another murder, the body of Manoj Huddar (29) was found with the head smashed in the early hours of the day at Soubhagya Nagar. Huddar had left his residence at Sawarbandhe Layout on Friday at 8pm, informing mother Vrinda that he was heading to a friend’s place for a feast. Family sources said Huddar had been suffering with many health issues in the last two years, particularly his lungs. He had also lost his job after a surgery. A family source claimed that Huddar would hardly have any cash on him. He had been rendered too weak to work or even spend much time outside home.
The Hudkeshwar police late in the evening cracked Huddar’s murder, said zonal DCP G Shreedhar. “Amol Ganar, a friend of the deceased, has spilled the beans during sustained interrogation about his role in the murder that took place during a drunken brawl. Huddar was relentlessly abusing Ganar under influence of alcohol. Ganar smashed Huddar’s head in rage. It was only later that Ganar had realized that Huddar had bled to death,” said the DCP. Ganar is a painter and had a disturbed family life. Him and Huddar frequently had liquor together.
