Solan, September 17

Disruption of the District Grievances Committee (DGC) meeting by BJP leaders on Wednesday has snowballed into a controversy with the Solan police registering a case under Sections 143 and 186 of the IPC against 20 to 25 BJP leaders for stopping public servants from discharging their duties and being part of the unlawful assembly.

Additional Superintendent of Police Manmohan Singh said those responsible for obstructing the meeting were being identified. The case was registered yesterday.

The BJP leaders, including three MLAs from the district, had stormed the meeting to voice their protest against the “inept” handling of the MBBS admissions by the state government where Maharishi Markandeshwar Medical College had refused to admit the fresh batch.

As the MBBS classes started from September 14 these students were left in lurch. The BJP had lent voice to the cause of the aggrieved students.

Sloganeering by the BJP and Congress leaders was witnessed before the arrival of the meeting’s chairman and local MLA DR Shandil.

As three BJP MLAs —Rajiv Sehzal, Govind Sharma and KL Thakur — are part of the DGC, they have been spared while others have been booked for creating ruckus in the meeting.

Terming it as an act of vendetta, BJP’s mandal president Ravinder Parihar said it was appalling to note that no action had been initiated against the Congress leaders who had raised unsavoury comments against the Prime Minister from an official platform.

He said the BJP leaders had gone to hand over a memorandum to the DC. He added that though they had met the DC and the Additional SP yesterday and urged them to act fairly, a one-sided action had been initiated against the BJP leaders by registration this case.

He said they would protest against this one-sided action and demanded action against those who raised slogans against the Prime Minister.
