MADURAI: A four-year-old girl, who was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital with high fever a few days ago, passed away on Friday. Soundarya, 4, daughter of Arumugam of Alanganallur in Madurai was admitted to the hospital with high fever, hospital sources said. She had been suffering from brain fever, they added.
Sri Lankan refugee attacked: A Sri Lankan refugee residing in the Annaiyur camp in Madurai was attacked by two men on Friday.
Rajeswaran, who is living in the camp, was estranged from his wife Nishanthi, police sources said. "On Friday, his wife's brothers Dhayanandhan and Kanagarathinam picked up a quarrel with him and attacked him," a police officer told TOI. Based on a complaint, Koodal Pudur police registered a case and arrested the two men. Police have launched an investigation into the event.
Welfare measures distributed: AIADMK ministers Sellur K Raju and RB Udhayakumar distributed 19.41 lakh-worth welfare measures to 405 beneficiaries during an event held at Thirumangalam Tahsildar Office on Saturday. Addressing the event, revenue minister Udhayakumar said that the revenue department is the backbone of governance. "During AIADMK regime, 377 buildings, including seven district collector offices, were constructed at the cost of 356 crore," he added.
