BELAGAVI: BJP workers, headed by former MLA Abhay Patil, carried the cleanliness drive at dalit colony in Khasbag area of the city on Saturday, commemorating prime minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as Seva Diwas.
About 100 workers surprised everyone after entering dalit colony at Khasbag seeing its condition. Although, most of the people of this colony work as pourkarmikas, their own locality was full of dirt and unhygienic things.
Weeds had grown-up in the area and drainages blocked with mud. Rainwater saturated in open areas turned the breeding place of mosquitoes, with pigs rolling out there.
BJP workers, including Abhay Patil, cleaned the area by removing weeds and clearing blocked drainages. At the same time, workers had light food along with the pourkarmikas of the area. “Generally, we do cleanliness drives often, but this time chose slum area taking a big task celebrating Seva Diwas,” Abhay Patil said.
BJP office-bearers Mangesh Powar, Mahesh Vernekar, Mahesh Sutar and Sanjay Savvaseri were present.
