Seals face stern league competition from Silverfin, Dolphins

KAMPALA.

The third round of the Seals League will be a little more than just about swimming as the club set out to promote Peace Day that falls on September 21.
The swimming league, which gives individual swimmers an opportunity to compete in several short, middle and long distance races, is in its second year following its successful inauguration that attracted over 200 swimmers last year.
This third round is expected to be even more competitive as the focus will be mainly on the 100m and 200m races, which is where the bulk of Ugandan swimmers plant their efforts.
Seals rivals, Silverfin Academy, who ran them close in the National Swimming Championships held in June return to the fray after missing the second round in April while Dolphins swimmers are pushing to remain a mainstay in this competition. Altona, Makerere University, UCU, Shark Teens, Sailfish and Rugisharks complete the line-up of swim teams expected at the meet.
“We shall partner with Peace One Day (an organization that set out to institutionalize the International Peace Day) and we are looking at enlightening and creating awareness among swimmers about peace,” Seals secretary Rachael Kadama said.
Since the bulk of Ugandan swimmers are between ages 8-17 years, Seals find this as the bedrock to promote good causes beyond the aquatic sport.
