1 killed, 7 hurt in Bohol road mishap

INABANGA, Bohol — A woman was killed while seven others were wounded on Saturday morning when a van overturned and fell into a ravine in Barangay (village) Luyo, Inabanga town, Bohol.

Graciana Avergonzado, 54, and a resident of Talibon town in Bohol, died at Francisco Dagohoy Municipal Hospital in this town.

Avergonzado was the mother-in-law of  Jhun Rey Polestico, 37, who drove the Toyota Hilux, which skidded off the road,  hit a woman and overturned several times before it went into a two-meter-deep ravine in Luyo about 5:40 a.m.
Wounded were Polestico and his five other passengers.

They were his mother, Elizabeth and four children – Lord Bryle, 7; Lord Joseph, 5; Blesel Rey, 8; and Ethel Rey, 10.

The five were brought to a hospital in the capital Tagbilaran City for treatment.

PO3 Ricky Remata, investigator of Inabanga Police Station, said the van (plate number WCQ423) was heading to Tagbilaran from Talibon town.

Remata said Polestico got distracted by the passing motorcycles and some residents who were on the road for their morning walk.

Polestico lost control of the vehicle which skidded off the road and hit Elsa Melencion, 76, who was walking with her husband.
Remata said Melencion was also brought to Tagbilaran City for treatment. CDG
