PANIPAT: Two newborn twin baby girls were found abandoned in Panipat late on Wednesday night. Police were clueless till Friday evening about the person who left the wo babies outside a doctor's house in Sector 12 of the town.
Doctor in a private hospital, Puneet Batra, heard his door bell ringing on Wednesday night. When he opened the main gate to check, he found the newborn girls in a basket.
He tried to look around and even asked his neighbours if they had seen someone leave the twins there. However, no one had any idea about the infants. Batra and his neighbours then informed police and admitted infants to the Panipat civil hospital.
Paniptal chief medical officer Dr Inderjeet Dhankar said, "The infants are not more than seven days old. They are underweight. We will hand over them to the child welfare department when their weight is proper and overall health fine."
A police spokesperson said, "Three teams have been formed to check hospitals in and around Panipat and adjoining areas of Uttar Pradesh. It seems that the girls were born in a hospital as they had the cord clamp which is used in hospitals. Police have been checking CCTV footage of area and have filed a case against unidentified person."
