Blackburn's 4 TDs lead Trinity over PRP

No. 1 Trinity High School beat No. 10 Pleasure Ridge Park 29-10 on Friday night.

Trinity trailed 10-7 in the second quarter, but quarterback Spencer Blackburn’s four touchdowns gave the Shamrocks the lead and the win.

Blackburn ended the night with 286 passing yards, 77 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers defense could not stop the senior. But the win wasn’t enough for Blackburn, who felt the team was a overconfident going into the evening.

“What I learned from tonight is that if one man doesn’t do his job out there, the whole team just suffers,” Blackburn said. “You’re gonna make bad plays, you just have to regather yourself and focus and just get onto the next play and I felt like we struggled with that tonight.”

Trinity Head coach Bob Beatty said he was proud of the team’s performance against a good team, but, like Blackburn, he felt their performance could have been better.

“We beat a very good football team,” Beatty said.

“These guys are gonna win a lot of football games…. I think somewhere along the line, our players swallowed the poison a little bit that we’re just gonna go in and smoke everybody 50 to nothing. Well we didn’t. When you face a really good football team like PRP you have to reset your attitude and say, hey we have to find a way to win our football game. Hopefully they’ll learn from this.”

Pleasure Ridge Park High School kept the Shamrocks on their toes for the first half of the game. The Panthers blocked an extra point and field-goal and had seven third- and fourth-down stops.

“It’s big boy football from here on out,” Panthers head coach Jason Hiser said. “ I think we gained some confidence tonight. Trinity is up there with the best teams in the state of Kentucky so hopefully that carries over to next week.”
