Panaji: A low pressure area over Telengana and adjoining Vidarbha (less marked now) has proved to be a boon to Goa as it brought with it the wettest spell seen this September.
While the state had witnessed light and moderate rain for most parts of the fortnight, the low pressure area moving into interior Andhra Pradesh brought rather heavy rainfall to some parts of Goa.

During the last 24 hours, till Friday morning, the state recorded an average of 27.5mm of rain. Four centres recorded rather heavy rainfall - Sakhali 51mm, Panaji 39.2mm, Valpoi 36.9mm and Mormugao 36.4mm.
All other centres, barring Quepem (5mm), recorded moderate rainfall.
Ponda recording 31.4mm, Margao 28.3mm, Dabolim 27.7mm, Old Goa 24mm, Sanguem 20.4mm, Ponda 17.4mm and Canacona 16.2mm.
While the upper air cyclonic circulation lies over Telengana and extends up to mid tropospheric levels, tilting south-westwards at a height, the low pressure area is likely to bring more rain.
“It will move further into Maharashtra from Vidarbha and North Konkan, including Mumbai, is expected to receive very heavy rainfall,” assistant meteorologist, meteorological centre, Altinho, N Haridasan said.
Goa is also expected to feel some impact and the meteorological centre has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Goa from September 16 till 19.
The seasonal total has touched 2767.5mm (108.9 inches), as against the normal of 2852.7mm (112.3 inches) at this stage. The deficit has been reduced from 4% to 3% due to the moderate rainfall received over the last couple of days.
