Ambaulim locals block traffic in protest

QUEPEM:Ambaulim villagers blocked traffic on the Quepem-Cuncolim road on Friday evening in protest against the failure of the public works department (PWD) to barricade the area near the culvert under construction, resulting in accidents.
Locals blocked all four-wheelers and passengers from stranded buses were seen walking on the road.
PWD started construction of the culvert on August 26, but it collapsed soon after due to heavy traffic plying to the Cuncolim industrial estate.Despite earlier assurances, PWD had allowed traffic on the remaining part of the three meter extended culvert, thus making it difficult for the vehicles.
PWD Assistant Engineer Savio Gomes said that department has placed the barricade but it may have been removed by people. “I have instructed the police to keep a watch near the culvert,” Gomes said.
