If you are doubtful about the skills of Raj Kummar Rao that confirms that you have not been following Hindi cinema intricately. With films like Shahid, Aligarh, Kai Po Che and Citylights, the actor has proved that he may not be the superstar yet, but he is definitely an actor par excellence.
The National Award-winning actor has chosen to experiment with his skills again and this time, he will essay the role of a transgender in a Bengali film Ami Saira Bano.
“It’s a story about a boy who is a girl from inside and is drawn towards the transgender community who rechristen him Saira Bano. It was a fascinating story and character and challenged me as an actor,” Raj Kummar Rao told Mumbai Mirror. Due to financial troubles, the film is at present stuck in a mess but like Rajkummar Rao we all hope it revives soon and hope that the Hindi film industry will take some inspiration from the Tollywood film.
To prepare for his role, Raj Kummar Rao had visited the transgenders in Kolkata to get into the skin of the character, “Some of the stories were really sad but they themselves are chilled out and happy people,” the actor told the daily.
This, however, is not the first time an actor has chosen to play a transgender character. Prashant Narayanan in Murder 2 and Paresh Rawal in Tamanna are few of the examples we can cite from Bollywood.
The actor’s new look which has become the talk of the town has not come easy. Raj Kummar had to lose a lot of weight and has even shaved his body completely for the role.
A Bollywood filmmaker on reading his interview even asked him out on a date. We are not kidding. Check out his tweet below.
“This man can do anything. @RajkummarRao you look so beautiful. Can I take you out for a drink??” Anurag Kashyap tweeted.
