Karachi: Baldiya factory fire is worst incident in the history of the country which claimed over 250 lives, including a large number of women workers. “This can be termed as a worst crime against laborers,” Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said in a message on the eve of fourth anniversary of the traged. He said he had sought a detailed report from home, labour and prosecution departments so that necessary action could be taken in respect of payment of compensation to the families of victims, fulfillment of labour rights and for strong prosecution. “In my life I have never heard such a painful incident in which a large number of innocent workers had been burnt alive,” he said added “it wets my eyes when I recall the incident.” “What wrong those poor workers had done,” he questioned and then said simply they were there {in the factory} to earn square meals for their families,” he said. The chief minister said that he had received briefing on the chemical examination of the Baldia Factory fire incident in the Forensic Lab Lahore during his recent visit of the Punjab. “The case in pending in the court that’s why I cannot comment on it but yes, I would not spare anyone, if found guilty in the tragedy,” he vowed. He directed his advisor on Labour to ensure proper implementation of SOP of safety measures in each and every factory so that a similar incidents could be avoided in future.
