Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire on East Street Thursday evening that left a 130-year-old house with significant damage.Watch the reportThe fire ripped through the two-family duplex in minutes. The homeowner and a tenant were able to escape the home in the nick of time.The fire began in a first-floor bedroom. The woman living there tried to extinguish the flames while in a second apartment, owner Marilynn Flynn was preparing dinner."She came running over to me, the tenant, that there was something on fire and she couldn't get it out," she said. "I went over and I thought I was going to be able to help her, you know? But I said, 'We have to call 911.'"The fire was raging by the time first responders arrived."It just got out of hand," Flynn said. "It went up in a matter of seconds."The two women were the only ones in the building at the time."It was initially just smoke pouring out," neighbor Keith Stark said. "They started pulling the roof apart, and it was fully engulfed."The fire eventually made its way to the second floor and then the attic.The bulk of the fire was knocked down in about an hour, and no injuries were reported.The cause of the fire has not been determined.
