A Railway Protection Force (RPF) officer, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000, was remanded in judicial custody by the Special CBI Court here on Thursday.
The accused, Devender Kaushik, was posted as sub-inspector in RPF, Jackal in Fatehabad district. He was arrested after a trap was laid by the CBI on Wednesday following a complaint by some labourers working at a site near Jakhal Railway Station.
In their complaint, the labourers – Mandeep Kumar, Randhir Singh and Chandi Ram – alleged that while they were working at the site, the optical fibre cable of the railway station got damaged. Then the sub-inspector took the labourers to the police post and seized their vehicle.
Kaushik allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the labourers for not taking any action against them. When the complainants requested to reduce the bribe amount, it was brought down to Rs 10,000.
The accused sub-inspector told the labourers that their vehicle and instruments lying in it will be released only on payment of the bribe amount of Rs 10,000. Following the complaint, a trap was laid by the CBI team .
