MCI to visit Chamba college to oversee preparedness

CHAMBA: The Medical Council of India (MCI) is expected to visit Chamba soon to take stock of the preparedness of the new medical college at Chamba named as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College (PJNGMC).

The Medical Council of India (MCI) is expected to visit Chamba soon to take stock of the preparedness of the new medical college at Chamba named as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College (PJNGMC). The new medical college would be a boon for Chamba district.

Principal of the college, Prof Anil Ohri, said here yesterday that the entire process to get the new medical college ready was well underway. Renovation work on the premises of Akhandchandi Palace to house the office of the Principal and to run the classes as a stopgap arrangement was in progress.

In addition to the 200-bed regional hospital, a new building with 100-bed capacity constructed at a cost of Rs 10.38 crore had been inaugurated by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh recently. There is a provision of 20-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Two new modular operation theaters would also be set up.

Prof Ohri said bio-chemistry laboratories for one hundred students would be created at the top floor of the new hospital building where the students would be given demonstrations. He informed that a septic operation theater would be made ready. Each ward in the medical college hospital would have four beds for the seriously sick patients.

Prof Ohri said the existing office of the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) would be converted into the administrative block of the college.

The entire hospital would be computerized and brought online for the facility of public.

About the faculty of the medical college, he said about 40 specialized faculty pertaining to various departments would be deployed to run the medical college.

Prof Ohri informed that Health Minister Kaul Singh Thakur had already directed them to speed up the completion of all works required for the commencement of medical college.
