Efforts needed to give Hindi its due: Dhumal

HAMIRPUR: “The use of Hindi in development of new computer and mobile applications will expand its horizon and students of the National Institute of Technology could encourage this,” said former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while addressing students of NIT here yesterday in a function organised to mark Hindi Day yesterday.

“The use of Hindi in development of new computer and mobile applications will expand its horizon and students of the National Institute of Technology could encourage this,” said former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal while addressing students of NIT here yesterday in a function organised to mark Hindi Day yesterday.

He said Hindi had been declared as national language but still it had to get that status socially. He said Hindi was taught in over 150 universities around the world and more than 20 per cent of the world population spoke and understood Hindi language but more efforts were required to make it internally acclaimed language.

He said Hindi was also the carrier of rich cultural heritage. Hindi writers and poets, including Munshi Prem Chand, Maithlisharan Gupt, Mahadevi Verma and many more, had contributed to the language by their works.

Later, the former CM awarded the winners of a competition organised on the use of Hindi in NIT. Other present included officiating Director of NIT Vinod Kapoor, heads of various departments and officers of construction wing of the institution.
