Don’t try to change us
Most of the youngsters feel that Bengaluru girl’s case has hit an emotional chord with so many youngsters because it is all about standing up for who you are.
Samiha Khan, a student of architecture, said: “It’s not fair to expect a girl to give up something that she is so passionate about. If I was in her shoes, I would have done exactly what she has done. The guy who wants to marry me, has to accept me as I am. And why should anyone try to change us, just because we are girls? I refuse to give such an authority to anyone!”
Accept in totality
Interestingly, there are many lads who have endorsed the stance taken by Karishma, who feel that marriage is about mutual understanding and complete acceptance and guys can’t really get away with their unreasonable demands. Pursuing his CA, Aabir Roy, said: “I feel it is unreasonable on the part of a guy to expect a girl to get rid of her pet, especially when she is so fond of it. Marriage is all about complete acceptance, so when a girl is relocating to your city, leaving her parents, home and friends behind, you also have to ensure that you support her totally. In that guy’s place, I would have extended my full support to my girl.” Another city youngster Harshal Madan voiced similar views as he added: “I feel both the people in this case should have shown more maturity and worked around the problem. But the first step should have been taken by the boy and later he could have convinced her to ensure that pet stayed in certain parts of the home and not in their bedroom if that troubled him so much.”
All about choice
What has miffed many girls is the fact that the guy in question tried to force his will on the girl. And that is something, which is not acceptable, shared engineering student, Simran Deshmukh, who added: “Two years ago, I may have accepted such a diktat, but now after working with some of the ill-treated women of our society through our college’s committee, I have realised that women of all groups and segments are denied a right to take a decision in so many areas of life. And now I really understand that Bengaluru girls’ dilemma. It is not merely about a pet, but about the choice. Nobody must force you to make a choice against your will.”
