A 25-year-old member of film director Seeman's Naam Thamizhar Katchi attempted self-immolation in Chennai on Thursday to protest against the attack on Tamils in Karnataka over the Cauvery water dispute.

CHENNAI: A 25-year-old member of film director Seeman's Naam Thamizhar Katchi attempted self-immolation in Chennai on Thursday to protest against the attack on Tamils in Karnataka over the Cauvery water dispute.
The man, identified as Vignesh, who is the secretary of the party’s youth wing in Mannarkudi, suffered 93% burns after attempting self-immolation during a rally taken out by Naam Thamizhar Katchi from Pudupet to Egmore to condemn the attack on Tamils in Karnataka.

Seeman led the rally. When they reached Egmore, Vignesh, who was shouting slogans, doused himself with kerosene and set himself on fire. Other protesters doused the flames.
He was rushed to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital where he was battling for his life, police said.
