Tradition has spread to Moto GP with Valentino Rossi joining in; Ricciardo will save shoey for race wins in the future

Daniel Ricciardo has lifted the lid on the background of his 'shoey' podium celebration - and expects to be joined in the tradition if he wins the Singapore GP.
The Australian has performed the shoey - drinking champagne out of his racing boot - twice this season, even getting countryman Mark Webber involved after finishing in the top three in Belgium.

Ricciardo may have introduced the quirky celebration to Formula 1, but he can't take credit for inventing the shoey itself, with the 27-year-old taking inspiration from some fellow Australians and even a Moto GP winner.
"It basically comes from a few Aussies called the Mad Hueys," Ricciardo said during Thursday's Drivers' Press Conference in Singapore.
"They basically travel the world fishing and surfing and they like to drink a lot of beer - so that's where the shoey began.
"Jack Miller knows some of the Huey guys so when he got his [Moto GP] win in Assen, I suspected he was going to do it - I just thought I'd keep the Australian tradition going. I saw Valentino [Rossi]'s now got in on the act!
"It's just a bit of fun and everyone's enjoying it."
Ricciardo was then asked by Valtteri Bottas how the shoey tastes. The answer? Better than expected!
"If the sparkling wine is cold, then it tastes good," he added. "If it's warm then you might get the sweat through it but the cold taste kills the bad stuff... so it's delicious.
"I might not do it here for second or third, but with a victory I'd expect a few people to do it with me!"
