Cathy Hunt Announces Stellar Cast for INVISIBLE CIRCUS and Releases New Imagery

The eagerly-awaited announcement of Cathy Hunt's cast for the upcoming production of Jessica Tuckwell's Tiny Remarkable Beamble is finally here! Hunt has put together an incredible ensemble of local talent including Sydney Theatre award winner Thomas Campbell (Dowton Abbey, Misterman Siren Theatre Co., Hamlet Belvoir Theatre Co.), the astounding Michael Whalley (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown Hayes Theatre, The Principle Ch9, Love Child Ch9) and Catherine Terracini who has recently starred in the cult hit Wyrmood in addition to her extensive theatre, film and television resume. The trio are thrilled to be cast by Hunt for Tuckwell's wonderful Tiny Remarkable Bramble for the Invisible Circus season curated by acclaimed director Kate Gaul playing at KXT this November.

Roll up! Roll up to the bAKHOUSE Big Top! Invisible Circus playing the Kings Cross Theatre this November. Two of Sydney's most daring and influential theatre-makers, Kate Gaul and Suzanne Millar, have joined forces to create Invisible Circus - a season of plays, performances and provocations written and directed by Australian women.

Alongside Gaul and Millar for Invisible Circus are directors Cathy Hunt and Priscilla Jackman presenting works by 2016 AWGIE Award nominee (and 7 time winner) Nöelle Janaszweska, Jessica Tuckwell and Sunny Grace respectively. This group of theatrical trailblazers will bring their individual perspectives and visions to the ring for the Invisible Circus season. Comprising three full-length, new Australian plays and a series of master-class salons, Invisible Circus highlights a range of concerns, genres and approaches driving female artists to create innovative work for Sydney audiences

In a unique format that will stimulate and entertain - each production plays in rep over three weeks, while bAKEHOUSE Theatre's Suzanne Millar will add another touch of intrigue to the season with a free series of provocative readings, open rehearsals and talks which invite audiences inside the Big Top to discover brand new works in the earliest stages of development and creation.

Invisible Circus is not 'female theatre' for the sake of it or because of the political hot button that is gender parity in the industry. Invisible Circus is a space and place for women who are already busy working and developing, to band together and challenge the expectation and perception of female-centric theatre in Sydney.

Good with Maps is a striking performance essay by Nöelle Janaszweska and performed by celebrated theatre-maker Jane Phegan. When the world map was full of gaps, the Amazon topped the list of places unknown to western explorers. In 2016 are there any 'unknowns' left? On a trip to the Amazon, the writer ponders this and other questions as she struggles to deal with her father's journey through Parkinson's disease towards the eternal unknown - death. Sometimes sad and confronting but also funny and thoughtful, Good With Maps celebrates the power of reading and literature to transport us to places both real and imagined.

Good With Maps was written with a New Work grant from the Literature Board of the Australia Council.

Inspired by a rarely performed all-female Puccini opera, The Angelica Complex, is a provocation into modern motherhood and an exploration of the last taboo - infanticide. Juxtaposing rich stylistic forms including video projection, opera, physical poetic language and brutal wit, The Angelica Complex takes audiences on an unsettling, transformative and revelatory voyage through the challenges of a woman struggling to cling to her own sanity while holding on, for dear life, to the child she loves.

bAKEHOUSE Theatre's Artistic Director Suzanne Millar (in association with Nicole Wineberg) curates a series of work in development, from India, the Middle East and Malaysia - putting women the world over at the centre of the conversation. The Sideshow offers free open rehearsals, art exhibitions and music for audiences who want to some extra delicacies from the Invisible Circus troupe.

The Laden Table is a brave piece of writing challenging 'dinner table racism'. With the divisive rhetoric of Trump and the constant surprise of Pauline in public office, The Laden Table is about as topical as it gets!

Freefalling from Left of Centre Theatre Co is a work that examines a life lived on the outside of normal, with a particular look at diversity and issues of mental health, with just a touch of Winnie the Pooh!

Jatinga is part of a bigger, broader bAKEHOUSE Theatre project that aims to build relationships between artists in Australia and India. Scheduled for a 2017 season in Sydney and Mumbai, Jatinga is a global exploration of womanhood, by women. bAKEHOUSE Theatre are thrilled to announce that Jatinga playwright, the award-winning Purva Naresh, will travel from Mumbai to Sydney for the Invisible Circus season, as part of the artists' exchange program, along with some of the Mumbai cast members.
