PUNE: Authorities on Wednesday scrambled to ensure Alaknanda Vaidya was transferred back to Pune from a government hospital in Baramati, a day after TOI reported about the plight of the single parent and paraplegic doctor .
Following tweets by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday evening, Vaidya has been called by the Director of Health Services, Mumbai, telling her that the details of her transfer are being worked out.

Followed by an apology.
Vaidya had started a petition on website Change.org, requesting the chief minister that she be transferred back from Baramati to Pune, where her 11-year-old daughter lives with her grandmother. In a week, she had garnered support from over 80,000 persons on the petition. But the biggest endorsement came from Fadnavis, who tweeted to her, assuring that her transfer would happen in a day's time. The chief minister also sought the name of the official who effected the transfer.
Also, Vaidya told TOI that she received calls from Director of Health Services, Mumbai, Mohan Jadhav as well as Deputy Director of Public Health Hanumant Chavan late on Tuesday. However, the call telling her about finalising of her transfer came from Jadhav on Wednesday. "Jadhav told me that they are now working to find out a vacancy suitable for me in Pune," she said.
Thanking the CM for the response to her petition, Vaidya said, "I am extremely grateful and touched by our CM's kind gesture. This shows that he has reacted sensitively and promptly. I am short of words to express my gratitude. My daughter (Ananya) too thanks him, because his kind action has brought her mother back home to her warm hugs."Meanwhile, Jadhav remained unavailable for comment when contacted by TOI.

A road accident in 2010 had left Vaidya paralysed from the waist down. She had recovered but needed help for even basic tasks such as getting up from bed. She had enrolled for a government job and got selected as a medical officer in February 2015. However, her posting was in Baramati, 100km from her home in Pune.
As per government regulation, any employee with more than 40% disability cannot be posted more than 10km from their place of residence.
The order facilitating the transfer may come by Friday or Saturday, with Thursday being a public holiday.
