KANPUR: A team from Achalda police station of
Auraiya, in association with SOG (special operation group), busted a gang involved in smuggling of illicit liquor. The police arrested four persons and recovered 202 cartons from their possession on Wednesday.
The accused used to get liquor of various brands from
Haryana at cheaper rates and smuggle in the region on higher rates.
"They also used to refill empty bottles of top brands. Stickers, seals and other packaging material were also recovered," said police.
The police raided a brick-kiln unit where the smugglers used to hide liquor consignment, said the police.
Four members of the gang were arrested while two accused identified as
Lalu Yadav and Vineet Yadav managed to flee.
The arrested were identified as Vinay, Chotey, Sant Singh and Jitendra Yadav.
Police said the accused used to take brick kiln unit on rent. A case has been registered against four persons at Achalda police station.
