2 dead, 2 affected in 50m-radius: Baguiati in panic
Immersion material floats at a Railpukur Road pond in Baguiati.
KOLKATA: Baguiati is in a grip of dengue panic as nearly double-digit fresh cases are being reported from the area everyday and the Bidhannagar corporation authorities seem to be clueless on how to fight the menace. In a radius of 50m at Railpukur road, two persons have died of dengue in a span of four days and another two have tested positive.
Patients are coming in from Jagatpur, Adarshapalli, Amar Palli and Pramodgarh regularly.

Mihir Biswas, 52, who died of dengue on Monday , used to run a pathological laboratory in the area. His elder brother Dipak Biswas, a paediatrician, said his brother had fever on Tuesday last week and his platelet was very low on Thursday. He was admitted to a nearby nursing home and he passed away on Monday. “On an average, five dengue cases are coming to this laboratory alone. The civic authorities are not taking enough preventive measures. They should visit every household in this area,“ Biswas, who is also the president of IMA Baguiati branch, said.
The other dengue victim, 45-year-old Uma Shankar, stayed two minutes of walking distance from Biswas's house. The scare is so much that local residents keep their windows closed through the day.
Locals complain the authorities are not doing enough to even after being rebuked and warned by chief minister Mamata Banerjee few weeks ago.
Moreover, the civic officials are not even updated about the case count in time. In both the death cases in Baguiati, the officials had no prior information, said the residents.
According to civic estima tes, about 100 people have been affected in the area so far but locals say the number is much higher. Nine persons in the corporation area have died of dengue so far.
Though the civic officials claim to be doing whatever is required to control the outbreak, residents of Baguiati, Tegharia and Rajarhat up to the airport complain they are not seeing any civic initiative in their areas.
Bidhannagar Corporation MMiC (health) Pranay Roy said the civic body is doing its best to control the disease from spreading with their limited infrastructural facilities.
