BARASAT: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed by a Bangladeshi youth at Baduria in North 24-Parganas on Wednesday . The incident sparked unrest in the area and enraged locals lynched the suspect within an hour of the crime. Local women initially didn't even allow the police to enter the area.
A large contingent of police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.According to reports, the incident took place around 8.30am when the Class-X student, a resident of Kushadanga, went for a bath in a nearby pond.

The accused, a married youth identified as Ayan Sardar (32) who came from Bangladesh and was staying in the neighbourhood, was also at the pond. Sardar reportedly took her to a bamboo garden where he raped and killed her.The accused went into hiding after the incident. Cops suspect the girl had tried to fight back, which is why the accused strangled her.
Later in the day , the girl's father, aided by neighbours, started looking for her. “The body was found in a seminude condition in the bamboo garden. She was rushed to Baduria state general hospital where she was declared brought dead. The locals found a torn shirt at the spot, which led them to identify the accused,“ said Fatema Bibi, a local woman.
Locals started looking for Sardar and caught him at Chingrirmore, 2km from Kushadanga. They claimed Sardar confessed to the crime when surrounded by the mob.Locals dragged Sardar to Kushadanga and thrashed him till he was senseless. Sardar was taken to Basirhat subdivisional hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to police sources, Sardar had a criminal past in Bangladesh and escaped to India a couple of years back.
North 24-Parganas SP Bhaskar Mukherjee said, “We have registered a rape and murder case, as well as a case on lynching.“
