Two killed, nine injured as jeep rolls down gorge

MUSSOORIE: Two persons were killed and nine injured when a Max Jeep fell into a deep gorge near Dolsi village on the Nagun-Bhavan-Uttarkashi road today afternoon.

Two persons were killed and nine injured when a Max Jeep fell into a deep gorge near Dolsi village on the Nagun-Bhavan-Uttarkashi road today afternoon.

The Thatyud police along with PRD and Home Guard Jawans rushed to the spot to carry out rescue operation. The injured were taken to hospitals in Thatyud and Mussoorie.

The deceased are Rajesh (45), a resident of Birpur Dunda in Uttarkashi, and Suman (22) of Kotdhar, Uttarkashi.

Thatyud police station in-charge DM Baloni said the vehicle bearing registration number UK010 TA0086 was on its way to Uttarkashi from Dehradun when the driver lost control over it all of a sudden near Dolsi village around 3.15 pm. The bodies have been sent to Thatyud government hospital. These will be sent to New Tehri hospital for postmortem. The families of the deceased and the injured have been informed about the mishap, Baloni said.

The injured have been identified as Anjali Rawat (20) of Gyunla village in Dharasu (Uttarkashi), Tahir (21) of Pathanpura Bediyan Deoband (Saharanpur), 30-year-old Ajay (driver) of Gyansu (Uttarkashi), Brijesh Chauhan of Kalsi (Dehradun), Ramgopal Nautiyal (64) of Badripur (Dehradun), Krishna Nanad Kudiyal (37) of Gyansu (Uttarkashi), Pratap Singh (48) of Kotiyal Gaon (Uttarkashi), Kusum Bhandari (24) of Nalupani (Uttarkashi) and Surendar Gusain of Koti village (Uttarkashi).

Almora mishap claims four lives, two hurt

Dehradun:  Four men were killed in a road mishap in Almora on Wednesday. Two others sustained severe injuries.

According to information, a Bolero jeep they were travelling in fell into a gorge. The injured have been admitted to a government hospital. 

Chief Minister Harish Rawat  expressed grief over the mishap. He instructed officials of the district administration to provide the best medical care to patients. 

The vehicle was going from Bhaikiyasain to Baskot. Residents of nearby villages were the first to rush to rescue the victims. They pulled the bodies out of the vehicle and took the injured to a hearby hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Vipin Ram, Surendra Singh, Har Singh Negi and Ram Singh Negi.

The injured — SS Negi, and Harish Singh — are under treatment. The bodies have been sent for postmortem. 

The police are investigating the case. — TNS
