Mumbai: Not being allowed to meet 26/11 accused, says his lawyer

His lawyer Asif Naqvi has written to the authorities that the jail authorities are deliberately not allowing him to meet Ansari. Naqvi claimed that when he went to meet Ansari last month, the prison authorities did not allow him to enter, despite him being his advocate on record since 2013.

Naqvi has said the jail officials also refused to give him in writing that his application seeking to meet Ansari was rejected to prevent him from approaching other authorities. “The jail authorities are purposely not allowing the accused to meet his advocates and it is a denial of his right to a fair trial and natural justice,” the application stated.

Authorities claimed that Ansari is not taken out of the prison premises to the sessions court where his trial is underway due to security purposes. He is produced before the court through video conference. “I have again received a letter from the accused in jail on September 9 to come and meet but time and again, the jail authorities are refusing and not allowing me,” Naqvi said.
