The Texas Supreme Court Historical Society Recognized Bracewell Partner Warren Harris with President’s Award

HOUSTON – The Texas Supreme Court Historical Society recognized Bracewell LLP Appellate Partner Warren W. Harris with the second annual President’s Award at the John Hemphill Dinner on September 9, 2016 in Austin.

Harris was honored for his work as the founder of the Taming Texas project. In its inaugural year, Taming Texas reached nearly 10,000 Houston-area students. The Taming Texas program recruited judges, attorneys and Houston area school districts to participate in this judicial civics and court history project organized by the Historical Society and the Houston Bar Association. Using the book “Taming Texas: How Law and Order Came to the Lone Star State”, the project focused on 7th grade Texas history classes, with the judges and attorneys teaching students how the state’s court system fits into the larger picture of Texas history.

As head of Bracewell’s appellate practice, Harris has handled hundreds of appeals and original proceedings in the Texas Supreme Court, United States Supreme Court, and state and federal courts of appeals. Harris has previously served as the president of the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society.
