Earlier, it was rumoured that Ravi Teja would star in the remake. However, the source clarified that the cast and crew are yet to be finalised. Notably, the director's Gabbar Singh was also a Telugu remake of Hindi blockbuster film Dabangg.

Inspired from 1987 Opera House heist where a group posing as Income Tax officer raided the jeweler, Special 26 starred Akshay Kumar, Manoj Bajpayee, Anupam Kher and Jimmy Shergill.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film was an out-and-out money spinner at the box office.
