Ordinary women deserve support

accreditation

I still remember the attention June Steenkamp received after the death of her daughter Reeva. June was supported financially, emotionally and physically.

I’m not against that – it’s obviously a good thing.

But a Braamfischerville woman was hijacked and later found dead, there was the Khwezi woman who was allegedly raped by Number One, and an albino woman was killed for muthi purposes.

Young women in Pretoria were ridiculed for their hair, the Mbhele sisters were found dead near the Nancefield Hostel, and a 22-year-old student was raped by cops during a protest. If I remember correctly, the ANC Women’s League was quiet about all these cases.

I need to know how this works. Do only famous people deserve to be recognised and supported?
