SURAT: Nearly, four lakh people have been deprived of essential water supply since Monday following rupture in the main water supply line from Magob pumping station to Puna.
The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has assured the citizens that the repair work on the pipeline will be completed by Tuesday evening.
Angered over the attitude of SMC officials, women from the area on Monday night went to the local civic body office and broke empty earthen water pots and registered their protest, said Hasmukh Desai, city congress chief.

Some of the locals have also complained that such disruption in water supply was a routine problem faced by people of the area.
"We are not getting regular water supply. We get it every second or third day," alleged Sudha Mangukia, a resident of Puna.
SMC Varachha zone chief K G Khatiwala said, "There was a rupture in the pipeline which was repaired. But as the water flow began the pipeline ruptured again. So, we had to undertake repair work once again. The water supply will start again by Tuesday late evening."
He further said that the SMC's hydraulic department will begin work for laying alternate pipeline from Friday.
All the councillors from the area belong to the Congress party resulting in constant tussle with the ruling party in Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) .
