CHANDIGARH: A special CBI magistrate of Panchkula on Tuesday sent Ravneet Garg, a former chief judicial magistrate (CJM) of Kaithal who had been arrested for alleged involvement in his wife's murder in July 2013, to judicial custody.
Ravneet was produced before a CBI magistrate as his custody ended on Tuesday. While producing the accused judicial officer before the court, CBI counsel informed that he was no more required for custodial interrogation.
On September 8, Ravneet was arrested from the courts complex in Kaithal.
He was produced in a CBI court, which had remanded him in five-day CBI remand for recovery of case property and identification of the scene of crime.
On July 17, 2013, Ravneet's wife, Geetanjali, was found dead near her house in police lines of Gurgaon. The special investigations team (SIT) constituted to probe the case had at first termed it as a case of suicide.
While insisting that the Geetanjali had three bullet wounds on her body, her father Om Parkash had alleged foul play by SIT and sought a CBI probe. Om Parkash had questioned as to how a person committing suicide could shoot herself thrice. During preliminary questioning, the judicial officer had confirmed that the weapon used in killing Geetanjali belonged to him.
