Bhiwani, September 13

State Election Commissioner (SEC) Dalip Singh yesterday said byelections to 12 posts of sarpanches and 2,000 posts of panches would be held on September 25. Elections to the Municipal Council, Sirsa, and byelection at a ward under the Municipal Committee in Kanina, would also be held on the same day.

Addressing mediapersons here, the State Election Commissioner said 36 candidates who were defeated in the panchayat election had been barred from contesting for next three years. The candidates were disqualified after they failed to submit their poll expenses within a month of the declaration of the result. He said notices had been served on all such candidates.

He said preparations were afoot for election to the Municipal Council, Bhiwani. He said the draft voter list had been published and electoral rolls would be completed by October 5.
