RUDRAPUR: The long wait of sports lovers for a stadium in US Nagar’s Kiccha will soon be over as the municipal corporation has sent a detailed project report of Rs 1.72 crore to the state sports ministry for upgradation of
Indira Gandhi park to a stadium.
In addition to this, the upgradation of Kiccha bus terminus is also in the pipeline with housing and urban development corporation (HUDCO) agreeing to provide a budget of Rs 70 lakh for the project.
The only playing ground, the Indira Gandhi park, does not cater to the needs of the players. Most of the time the park is acquired by political, religious and social organisations for hosting social events. The undeveloped park is not suitable for any type of sports competition. Earlier, the municipality has made efforts to develop the park by renovating the boundary and spending on the beautification of the park.
“The demand of sports-lovers and emerging players has been considered seriously. Indira Gandhi park will soon be upgraded with a modern cricket pitch, pavilion, athletic track, boundary wall and several other facilities including a permanent coach for the games,” chairperson of
Kichha municipality, Mahendra Chawla told TOI.
“If people in small cities and towns are given proper facilities, more number of national and international players will come out from these places and bring pride to the country, said
Dinesh Bhatia, a resident of
Punjabi colony.
Chawla further said that the bus terminus will also be renovated soon. “The council has been asked by HUDCO officials to submit the detailed project report for the purpose and thereafter a bus stand equipped with modern technology will be developed,” he said.
