KOLKATA: Mihir Biswas, 52, a resident of
Railpukur Road at
Deshbandhunagar in Baguiati and the owner of a diagnostic centre, died of dengue Monday evening.
Biswas was suffering from fever since last Monday but he only took paracetamol for two days. It was only on Thursday when he got his blood test done and he was reported positive for Dengue. His platelet count was as low as 14000. On Friday, he got admitted at Uma Nursing Home where he was administered with 12 units of platelet.
His brother, MK Biswas, who is a doctor said his condition continued to deteriorate as he complained of breathing trouble and an USG report showed accumulation of water in his stomach and on Sunday he was shifted to
AMRI hospitals, Dhakuria.
“At AMRI, his condition had improved and so was the platelet count. But his lever had stopped functioning and on Monday evening he breathed his last,” said Biswas. Mihir was survived by a wife and a 17-year-old daughter. Last week, a resident of the same locality, Uma Shankar Bose Baul, 45 had died of dengue with symptoms similar to that of Biswas. As per the last health department figures, the dengue death toll was 28 till August 31. It has now touched 35. In Baguiati only, nine persons have died so far.
