It’s clearly a first, not just in South Indian cinema but in Indian cinema too.

Releasing six songs in six countries, Tamil music composer Ghibran finally made it to Singapore on September 11 by road from Chennai after stumbling through few roadblocks.

Steering away from a typical audio release ceremony, Ghibran embarked on this road journey from Chennai on August 12 towards Singapore.

Staying in tune with the title of his upcoming film, Chennai2Singapore, Ghibran’s agenda was to release six songs from the film’s album in six countries.

The first single Vaadi Vaadi was released in India and the remaining five songs to be released en route while travelling through Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.

That nothing could break the spirit of Ghibran and team was evident when undaunted by the earthquake that left them stranded in Imphal in the last week of August, they went ahead. And entered Bhutan to release Poda and then into Myanmar for the third song, Pogathe.

But on reaching Thailand, it was testing times again when Thai police seized Lakshmi, their car. It did not take long for Lakshmi to take to the roads again. After releasing Texas Pogiren in Thailand, Ghibran’s team arrived in Malaysia to release their fifth single Gun Inbam.

With Singapore beckoning them, Ghibran reached their final destination on September 11. The last song, Ro Ro Roshini, from the album was released in Singapore.

A jubilant Ghibran, in a video post on Facebook, recalled his college days in Singapore. Joining in the nostalgic mood was the film’s director Abbas Akbar, a Singapore resident.

Akbar, who is making his debut with Chennai2Singapore, said that the story he had scripted grew six years ago in Singapore.

Chennai2Singapore is produced jointly by Comicbook Films India Private Limited and Shabir.

This action rom-com is the story of a struggling film-maker who comes to Singapore in search of investors to support his film-making dreams.

The cast includes newcomers Gokul Anand, Anju Kurian, Rajesh Balachandhiran, Emcee and Jesz. Karthik Nallamuthu is the cinematographer.

Ghibran shot to fame with his debut film, Vaagai Sooda Vaa, and then worked on Kamal Haasan’s three films — Vishwaroopam, Papanasam and Thoongaavanam.

Songs from ‘Chennai2Singapore’ are available on Think Music India.
