Einstein wide receiver Christian Greaves is proving he’s healthy, and better than ever

As soon as it was available, Christian Greaves grabbed the link to Friday’s highlight film and shared it with about 10 college coaches on Twitter. It’s become a Saturday-morning tradition for the Einstein senior wide receiver, who missed most of last season with an ankle injury. He is out to prove that he’s not only healthy, but better than he’s ever been.

The two games of film feature a full season’s worth of highlights, including two kick-return touchdowns and a punt return to the 1-yard line. Recruiters have taken notice. About an hour after Greaves sent the direct messages, Towson assistant Mike Moyseenko called him and gave him an offer. It was his third overall (following Army and Navy) but the first since a devastating right-ankle injury wiped out his junior season in Week 3.

“I was honestly surprised because Towson has been the school I’ve been trying to get a scholarship from for a long time,” said Greaves, who received the offer while on a visit to James Madison. “It’s close to home, and it has my major [sport management]. I could see myself there for four years.”

Greaves, a shifty, 6-foot wide receiver and free safety with electrifying speed, has put up video game-like numbers through two games. Kick-return touchdowns of 95 and 98 yards. Seven catches for 179 yards. A 55-yard run, as a quarterback. Six total touchdowns. Big plays all over the field.

Perhaps the most important stat: one victory. Einstein (1-1) defeated Churchill, 31-16, on Friday after a competitive, 47-36 loss to Richard Montgomery in Week 1. The Titans went 1-9 last year, with their lone win coming after their star wide receiver went down.

Before Friday, Grieves hadn’t won a varsity game since October 2014, when he played for Northwood. Between the losing and the the untimely injury, Greaves said he feels as if he’s been overlooked.

“A lot of people say, ‘They don’t win, he’s not a winner,’ ” said Greaves, who had 337 receiving yards in three games last season. “I feel like I’m always underrated.”

But those same factors have fueled his recovery, and helped him regain the explosiveness he has displayed since his freshman season. This fall, he has put himself him back on the recruiting radar, and while he’s excited about the Towson offer, he might just be getting started.

“I’m still shooting for more offers because there’s more opportunities,” said Greaves, who plans to wait until after the season to finalize his decision. “I’m still gonna play the same way I play.”

NUMBER CRUNCH: 1,227
