Hate him or love him… but you just cannot ignore him… Yes, we’re talking about Ajaz Khan. When the actor entered the controversial reality show Bigg Boss (Season 7), he set the TRPs soaring high. His pick-up line to his fellow contestants on the show, “Ek number boss, ek number” and “Badi badi baatein vada pav khatein,” made him instantly popular with TV audiences.  Blunt, bold, badass… that’s Ajaz Khan for you.

He started his career almost a decade ago. Initially, he was part of Ekta Kapoor’s TV show Karam Apna Apna among others. He marked his big screen debut with Ram Gopal Varma’s Rakta Charitra alongside Vivek Oberoi and Shatrughan Sinha. Today he has done several Hindi films including Allah Ke Banday and Lakeer ka Fakeer and has acted in several television shows including Rahe Tera Aashirwaad and Kahaani Hamaaray Mahaabhaarat Ki. He’s worked with some of the biggest names in the South industry as well - Ram Charan Tej (Naayak), Mahesh Babu (Dookudu) and director Sreenu Vaitla (Baadshah) among others. “I love acting. I get a kick by playing different roles and expressing different emotions,” he says.

Now, Ajaz is looking forward to the release of Harish Kotian and Sandeep Choudhary’s Love Day, where he plays the flamboyant Monty. The film revolves around three friends who want to make a film with a meagre sum. Monty is the bully, who introduces his friends Harry (Harsh Nagar) and Sandy (Sahil Anand) to all the wrong but exciting things in life. “It’s because of him, that his friends fall into trouble each time. People like Monty make life interesting,” says he. The actor talks fondly about his directors who helped him play his character with ease, “Directors Harish and Sandeep are brilliant with their work. They had a clear vision about what they wanted. Love Day is all about friendship and sends out the message that with time and experience you know who your true friends are.”

Ajaz is realistic in his expectations where his career is concerned. “I just aim to play good characters. I don’t bother about lead roles or supporting ones,” he says. It may have been a slow progression for Ajaz but he’s glad that it has been a steady one. And he believes that talent gets its due here. “Yeh industry sabko qubool karti hai.  They know who deserves it and who doesn’t. Good work is always accepted, see how actors like Nawaazuddin Siddiqui and Manoj Bajpayee have got their due now,” he explains. Off camera, Ajaz enjoys the simple joys of life. “I love spending time with my son. I like being around my mother and spending time with my family. I also love working out,” says the actor who enjoys huge female adulation despite his married status. On a parting note Ajaz gives a tip to all outsiders like him, “Remember just one thing… keep on working. It will take time to be there but there are opportunities for everyone. So go slow,
go steady.”
