Coldplay to perform in India and it seems like a party for Indians who are obsessed with mediocrity

Agreed! Coldplay is a legendary band and it’s coming to India is a big thing, but  only for true fans of the British pop band and Indians who have endless love for mediocrity and hypocrisy. For rest, it is just going to be another day. For last few days, only thing people discussing is about Coldplay performing at Global Citizen Festival. No one is concerned about what Global Citizen Festival aims to do. A little bit concern has been shown towards the list of Bollywood celebrities who will be present at the event too.

Honestly, it didn’t even come as a surprise when the list had names of Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. Because we Indians don’t even have anyone else who can promote development in India other than these two names. Same repetitions at every event. Rest of the names performing are Ranveer Singh, Katrina Kaif and Kareena Kapoor Khan and  Arijit Singh.  So why the buzz is only about Coldplay? We decode it for you.

Apart from the fact that Coldplay is a massively popular band and avid music lover are the ones who have heard all of their songs, and know the lyrics beat to beat. India have a huge fan base for the band too and people love that band like anything on the face of this world. But what really affecting is, those who probably haven’t heard Coldplay songs, they will follow the pop culture their peers follow, without any true interest. Over the time, some may develop interest, but many won’t. Especially those, who would buy the pricey tickets only to put up a check-in on social media, that they were there and people should remember that. Because why not? After all attending a concert of a legendary batch itself makes you a sort of legend. At least, in India where we love show off and very well be party to it.

India really doesn’t have a band culture or cult music culture. I guess the last era, when music was alive in India was the times of 80’s. After that things went down for bad and not it is just worse. If given a chance, so called music directors who do so much of hard work in  reworking on a song for a commercial motives, they will very well rework a song from Coldplay’s discography, put a rap in between which will have words like daaru, ladki, chora, nakhre and there you go! You have a original masterpiece. Such is our love for mediocrity. (ALSO READ: Coldplay, Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh and other celebrities to embrace stage at Global Citizen Festival in Mumbai)

Some of the hugely followed music bands in India are Euphoria, Parikarma, Agni, Indian Ocean, but the buzz which is visible for Coldplay will never be witnessed for these Indian bands. People love the music these bands make, but they aren’t Coldplay, so there will never be buzz about them. Many would not even know, what was the last song released by these bands. But everyone knows, Coldplay’s last song was Hymn For The Weekend which was shot in India. Oh! wow. Never ever it had happened before. Music video shot in India. Such a matter of ego boost.

Let alone be our mediocrity and hypocrisy. Our love for fair skin doesn’t end. Just to set the facts right, other than Coldplay, an another international name will also be joining the even in India, Jay Z. The man is known for his rap and his music worldwide. He is even more famous than Kanye West. But did anyone talk about it? Now what do we say about it. We are not crazy for ‘firangs’ but we are crazy for ‘gore firangs’.

As said earlier, not everyone who is going crazy for Coldplay is a music lover. If one is true music lover, then they must have heard the name Jay Z.

Talking about music performers at the event, Arijit Singh’s name has been confirmed for the event along with other Indian musicians and singers. The noted trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy will be performing at the event too and joining them will be Bollywood playback singer Monali Thakur too. But are we going crazy about it? Should we be crazy about it?

Arijit Singh, the recent singing sensation of Bollywood. His voice has become so much omnipresent, that every next Bollywood release has him sing one or more songs in the movie. This will continue for sometime, until Indian film makers find another voice to capitalize on. He is huge success and known more than the British band is known in India. But still, would you have been concerned about the tickets as much as you were concerned for Coldplay concert tickets.

Again, lets understand it this way. Apple just released iPhone 7 and it is pricey AF. So people went onto rant about it and many complained for it being overpriced. But it doesn’t mean they won’t buy the latest iPhone. They surely would, no matter how much it cost them. Because, looking poor with an iPhone 6 is worse and getting a hole  burnt in the pocket for next 12 easy monthly installments, literally being a poor millennial is cool.

Also, now that it has been made clear by the organizers that tickets will have to be earned to get a free entry to the show. People will be willing to do anything just like they do it while playing Pokemon Go. Recently, everyone who has been playing the game have been visiting holy places and temples in search of Pokemons. In nutshell, if organizers put a action to take, which asks everyone who is willing to become a global citizen to dance like KRK did on Beat Pe Booty song. Trust me, a lot of them will do. No matter how much they hated KRK doing that. (ALSO READ: Coldplay concert free in Mumbai and you can thank Narendra Modi for it!)

I think, stand-up comedian Zakir Khan summed up the whole buzz quite well in his facebook post few days ago.

“Mujhe na Metallica ke cancel hone ka dukh hua aur na ab Coldplay Ki mehngi tickets ka afsos hai.

Life me English kam aane ke apne hi fayde hai. #sakhtlaunda
