Robbers kill 65-year-old farmer in Jhunjhunu, flee with 40 goats

JAIPUR: A farmer was killed by unknown robbers when he was asleepin the wee hours on Monday.
Robbers decamped with nearly 40 goats from the farm situated at Kuthania village near Singhana in Jhunjhunu.
Tension prevailed in the village for hours as villagers as well as family members of the deceased farmer have demanded for suitable ex-gratia.
According to police, the deceased, identified as Leelaram Gujjar (65) was sleeping on a charpoi (cot) in his farm under open sky.In the morning when his son came to serve morning tea he found him unconscious.
"It appears that at least six armed robbers entered into his farm and strangulated him with the help of a pillow. Since the farm is away from the residential area, nobody heard anything during wee hours. The robbers have decamped with at least 40 goats," said Ram Monohar, station house officer (SHO), Singhana police station on Monday.
The matter came to light when son of deceased went to the farm to serve morning tea to his father and found him unconscious. Soonafter, a team of senior police officers and experts from forensic science laboratory (FSL) rushed to the spot.
Angry villages did not let the police to take the body for the autopsy and they were demanding an ex-gratia for the deceased's family.
"After the intervention of senior officers they finally agreed. We have registered a case of murder and robbery under appropriate sections of IPC," said Manohar.
Since the village is closed to the Haryana border, police have not ruled out the possibility of involvement of some inter-state gang.
"Prima facie it appears to be murder for gain as no past rivalry of dispute with the farmer came to the fore in the investigation so far," said a senior officer of Jhunjhunu district.
