SILCHAR: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) authorities have decided to set up an eco-tourism park at Panimur, 150 km away from Dima Hasao headquarters Haflong.
Authorities have also decided to start a community homestay project in Disru Raji village, 11 km from Haflong. Both moves are aimed at boosting tourism in Dima Hasao, popularly known as the 'Switzerland of the East'.
A senior NCHAC official on Monday said a representative of the World Bank had visited Panimur and Disru Raji last week to assess their tourism potential and funding requirements.

The NCHAC council has also initiated steps to develop Jatinga into an attractive tourist spot. To do this, it has joined hands with National Institute of Research Centre, Mumbai. Two specialists of the centre visited the village last week.
Jatinga, located on a ridge, is famous for the phenomenon of bird 'suicides'. The village is inhabited by Jaintias. It is one of Dima Hasao's numerous tourist attractions, including Panimur waterfall, golf course, Kapili lake, Haflong botanical garden and lake, Jinam Valley and Maibang.
