Twenty-year-old Sarina Sean Lanyon will be using her role as a contestant at the Telecom Sugar Festival to advocate on 3R campaigns.

Miss Lanyon said: “3R represents ‘Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’ and I feel that we all have a huge responsibility to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste we generate.”

The Fiji National University student is sponsored by the Lautoka City Council for the weeklong event which started on Saturday.

She said part of her objective was to play a role in further enhancing the image of the Sugar City.

This is in line with this year’s Telecom Fiji Limited Sugar Festival theme ‘Together We Will Rise’.

“We need to form a habitat and culture of adopting these environmental friendly approaches for the betterment of all.

“I am glad to share that LCC, being my sponsor, is implementing 3Rs initiatives of home composting, green waste chipping, clean schools programme, recycling, eco bag promotion, market waste composting, etc.”

She urged citizens of the Sugar City to use eco-bags when out on a shopping spree since she believes plastic bags have been a menace.

As a hospitality and hotel management student, Ms Lanyon says she realises representing the Lautoka City Council means representing the entire city – a major task requiring tremendous co-operation.

The Savusavu lass wishes to showcase her fashion wear at the weeklong festival.
